Independent Study

This fillable form must be completed prior to the first request for Independent Study made during the 2025 – 2026 School Year. This document includes all of the information that families need to know about Independent Study, including laws, district policy, attendance credit, and timelines.

Short Term Independent Study Request Form

This document must be submitted for each absence and for each student affected by the absence. This document will generate a prompt for the teacher(s) to create student work assignments, which will be provided to the student prior to departure or upon return from an illness.

** The Independent Study program is governed by California Education Code, sections 46300, 51744-51749.6, California Code of Regulations, Title 5 (5 CCR) sections 11700-11705, Administrative Regulation 6158, and Jamestown School District Board Policy (BP 6158) which stipulate that an instance of SHORT-TERM Independent Study may not be for a duration longer than a period of 15 school days, and LONG-TERM Independent Study may be for a period of time up to and including the entire 2025-2026 school year.

*If your child(ren) require more than 15 cumulative days of independent study over the course of the 2025- 2026 schgool year, please set up an appointment or communicate directly with the principal to make a request for LONG-TERM independent study.
